FRENCH COURSES FOR FRENCH-SPEAKING CHILDREN (Cours de Français pour Francophones)
French School Support - For native French-speaking students attending FIS
Level : Schedule:
7 - 12 years old
  • 1 - 5 times weekly

For French-speaking children who need additional support to make really significant progress and/or improve their overall performance at school.
During these courses, your child will:

  • reinforce what he/she is learning at school;
  • enhance his/her reading, writing and spelling skills;
  • deepen his/her knowledge of conjugation and grammar;
  • receive supportive guidance to keep up with his/her regular schoolwork / homework.

Emphasis is on developing competence as well as boosting self-confidence.

French School Support - For non-native French-speaking students attending FIS
Level : Schedule:
7 - 12 years old
  • 1 - 5 times weekly

For non-native French-speaking children attending French International School (French Stream) who need additional support to keep up with their work at school and/or improve their overall competence.
During these courses, your child will:

  • reinforce what he/she is learning at school;
  • acquire strong reading and listening comprehension skills,
  • practise his/her speaking skills, including proper pronunciation;
  • enhance his/her writing and spelling skills;
  • deepen his/her knowledge of conjugation and grammar;
  • receive supportive guidance to keep up with his/her regular schoolwork / homework.

Emphasis is on developing competence as well as boosting self-confidence.

French mother tongue support for native French-speaking students attending a local / ESF / international school
Level *: Schedule:
* Children are grouped by age and level of ability. Note: The above courses aimed at French-speaking children are taught by a specially qualified native teacher with such previous teaching experience.
7 - 12 years old
  • Once or twice weekly x 1.5 hours

For native French-speaking children who can understand and/or speak some of the language, with at least one native French-speaking parent, and who follow the local, ESF or international school system (other than French).
According to his/her level, your child will:

  • increase his/her listening comprehension and oral communication skills, including proper pronunciation;
  • enhance his/her reading, writing and spelling skills;
  • acquire a strong foundation in conjugation and grammar;
  • develop an interest in French culture.

The main emphasis is on helping your child become truly bilingual and maintaining contact with his/her cultural heritage.
Note: these courses are in line with IB philosophy regarding mother tongue support for children schooled in a language other that their mother tongue.

Homework Assistance - Etude Dirigée
Level : Schedule:
7 - 12 years old
  • 1 - 5 times weekly

For children who need help with their homework assignments.
A special class setting where your child can:

  • complete his/her homework assignments under the supervision of a qualified teacher;
  • study in a focused environment without distraction;
  • receive professional assistance in any of his/her school subjects as needed.

The ideal setting to ensure that your child does the best he/she possibly can in his/her homework assignments and fully understands what he/she studies at school.

 

CNED Support - Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance

  • Once or twice weekly x 1.5 hours

The CNED enables French children residing abroad to follow a French curriculum in accordance with French Education Ministry recommendations, and to have their results validated and fully recognised in France, so that whenever they return to France they may resume their normal studies.
It also allows non native French-speaking children, who desire a French education, to benefit from a fully endorsed programme, following a graded French government validated syllabus.
During this course, your child will :

  • receive professional assistance in any school subjects as needed;
  • get help to carry out his/her various weekly assignments well;
  • become familiar with the requirements of the programme.

The aim is for your child to develop competence in the subjects and to pass his/her regular progress checks as smoothly as possible.
